Grand documentOriginal passage from the "Grand document".

['Vergecio is a man who can say many things and if he were to say what he has seen and touched with his hand, they would applaud in Rome the name of the King our lord for events here, notwithstanding all that the Abbot Martinengo could suspect. Because, as I received the letter from Your Most Illustrious Lordship, in which he wrote his suspicions, Vergecio being here, I considered that it was as well to speak with him in this matter at greater length than I would have done without it, although I did not leave out general matters or fail to pass on to him what he could hear in the streets, if he wanted to know it. He told me that he thought that from Rome they would send him there, although, for what he came here, according to what he said, it was not necessary.
I think that he will not fail to achieve some good offices, because he cannot say anything except in accordance with what Abbot and Rome have written and said, not wanting to be put out of his house. But as what he answered me about his coming is written in English and French, just as they say, with that he will be deceiving himself if he does not want to think that here we do not want the abasement of this kingdom and obedience to the Apostolic See, which, of course, no one will think.'
