-Lettre du 29 avril 1703 (de Caen) : « Vous me faîtes connaître par votre dernière lettre, que vous êtes persuadé non seulement qu’il n’y a pas de médailles qui marquent la consécration de Tétricus le Père, après sa mort, mais encore qu’il ne peut y en avoir, à moins que quelqu’un de ses descendants ne lui ait fait cet honneur […] J’ai fait mon occuption de l’étude des langues orientales avant celle des médailles antiques. Je savais de l’hébreu assez passablement à l’âge de treize ou quatorze ans ; et quand je fus venu à Paris vers la fin de 1661, j’en pris des leçons, de même que la langue arabique, achevant mes humanités. En 1670, étant arrivé à Constantinople, je m’appliquais plus sérieusement aux mêmes langues de même qu’à la turque et à la persienne »… [sur la Réplique de Ballonfeaux à Galland ; Galland fait ensuite un long exposé de sa controverse avec P.-D.
