Grand documentOriginal passage from the "Grand document".

-Letter of 7 April 1649 (from Florence to Leiden): "Octavo ab hinc die ad te scripsi multa de nummis veteribus. sed quia quae scripseram necessarium erat te cito scire, ut ammisioni literarum occurrerem ea transcibere opportunum duxi ut hodie ad te mitterem, ut aiunt, meae epistolae duplicatum." [repeats text of letter of 31 March, more or less verbatim] 'It is the eighth day since I wrote to you at length about the ancient coins. But, because, it was necessary that you should learn quickly of the things about which I wrote, so that I might meet the sending of post, I thought it opportune to transcribe those things, so that I would send you today a duplicate, as it were, of my letter) (Leiden University Library, MS BPL 1920, van Dati no. 15)
