Grand documentOriginal passage from the "Grand document".

(The two letters which I had written to you have perished, and particularly the one in which was contained the account of the expenses, and of the money received and written in the agreement in Passignano’s hand. I have sent this one, so that it may come to you more safely, by a Venetian merchant, but my hopes have often been let down. Here you have everything again, so that you can see, from the calculation, the money which you have taken care to have paid exceeded the price of the coins. It happened that, for the 500 Roman scudi which I had told you would be at 10 Julii, you got in Florentine scudi 10 and a half Julii. So there remain with me about 29 scudi and you will tell me what is to be done with them.) (Leiden University Library, MS BPL 1920, van Dati no. 17)
