Grand documentOriginal passage from the "Grand document".

-Letter of 29 August 1689 (from Paris): "Dic quaeso aliquid de excellentissimo opere tuo De epochis Syro-Macedonum, quod hic omnes eruditi avidissime exspectant... Vaillantius noster ad umbilicum produxit responsionem suam adversus Harduinus; nec fuit articulus in Antirrhetico quo Harduini conviceret ignorantiam, adeo in nummorum cognitione parum versatus est hic Jesuita, qui se omnium antiquariorum eruditissimum profitetur. Morellius noster detinetur semper in custodi sua, nec spes affulget (ut multi dicunt) ex hac citius posse liberari; sortem viri incomparabilis omnes deplorant" (Pélissier 1903, lettre IV, p. 191-192).
