-Lettre du 18 avr. 1651 : dit ne pas posséder une empreinte en plomb d’une monnaie de Galère parce que cette monnaie est très répandue et que « tutte le piazze ne sono piene »; demande le catalogue de la collection de Francesco I de’ Medici ; repère des contrefaçons modernes dues à Dario Giusti « famoso rinettator del suo tempo » ; ainsi le médaillon de Commode et d’Annius Verus, reconnu comme moderne par le Grand Duc Francesco mais plus par ses successeurs : « perché di questo n’habbiamo qui il cogno moderno del frate del Piombo (nb : Giovan Giacomo Bonzagni, 1507-1565), quale fu già del cardinale Del Monte, hoggi del cardinale Barberino et di tal medaglione non ne ho visto mai alcuno antico, havero gusto ch’ella l’osservi bene et poi me ne dica il suo parere, recordandoli che pol essere metallo antico rebattuto con cogno moderno, perchè se bene il gran duca Francesco lo ha hauto e lasciato fra le cose sue non è pero da credersi che non lo cognoscesse tal qual era, ma li successori non cognoscendolo lo stimarono antico » (voir Missere Fontana 2009, p. 149, note 126, p. 246, note 62 et p. 256, notes 136-137).
