10 Oct. 1586 (from Naples): “Libenter scire optarem quid de Goltzio, num labores illos suos illustres dimisit diffisus rei difficultate aut taedio, an potius intrepide moliatur opus inceptum perficere possem etenim illum adiuvare effigie quamplurimum numismatum, quae eo tempore quo Italiam venit aut non reperta erant, aut illum alia de causa effugerunt. Nam tribus abhinc annis Musaeum meum innumeris propemodum effigiebus marmoreis philosophorum veterum et picturis recentiorum virorum illustrium, armis literis sanctitate vitae, auxi ornavique, multa praeterea conquisivi vetera numismata aut alia ex penu antiquorum ad nos reservata, quae omnia cum tota supellectile cordato tibi ac liberali animo offero, deprecorque ut si quid in me est quod tibi placere possit, credo autem esse plurima, petere non dedigneris, ac unum scies velim quod sit velut axioma, meam erga te observationem esse maximam, tibique me plurimum debere nec mihi quicquam carius esse posse quam aliquid facere quod tibi placet” (Den Haag, Koninklijke Bibliotheek, MS 79 C 4 (017), fol. 173; Hessels 1887, no. 147, p. 340).
