-Letter of 10 Sept. 1704 (from Deventer): "Johannes Smetius ultimum valere dixit rebus humanis ante très circiler menses ; cimelium vendidit Serenissimo Electori palatino anno proxime elapso, pretio 20000 florenorum Araloris hôllandici; illud adhuc Neomagi servatur"; "Fui Amstelsedamii circa ultimum Pascha, et vidi thesaurum veterum nummorum locupletissimum, quem ex Hispania deportavit Jacobus de Bary, qui Hispali per xx annos egit, et summa cum laude curavit res negotiatorum Batavorum ibi consistentium. Possidet plus quam octo eorum millia et quidem elegantissimos rarissimos omnis magnitudinis, et magnam partem anedcotois; muteis litteris varios explicare conamur et si eos edere animum inducerem, perspiceres certe me vera loqui, et affirmaturos eruditos sese plurimum eo nomine debere nobis. Notabiles imprimis sunt nummi Gaditani punicis vel Phoeniciis litteris inscripti, nec non omnium Hispaniae regionum, coloniarum et urbium, unde nunc primum docemur gentes illas diversis valde litteris usas, nec illas punicas, uti hucusque creditum fuit, sed meras topicas esse. Verbis exprimere, vir eximie, elegantias et praeclaras veteris aevi relliquias, quas ibi singulari meavAidi cum voluptate, vix possum.
