-Lzetter of 19 Dec. 1705 (from Deventer): "Fieri posset, ut Elephas meus propediem praela exerceat, si modo mihi temporis tantum vacivi, ut eum diligentius pertractare, et in capita distinguere possim ; id enim commodum valde lectori futurum arbitror ; et ubi hoc factum fuerit, ad Gordiani Historiam me accingam, et forte ahis operibus vel dissertationibus ; quae nunc jacent tam quia laboriosam provinciam nactus sum, et praeter consulatum quaesturam urbanam (Canierariu.ni vocant) administra ; quam quia acerbissima et gravissima belli tempestas facit ut typographi torpeant, nec ego propterea eos valde urgeam" (Pélissier 1902-1905, Lettre XI, 1903, p. 65)
