Lettre du 8 septembre 1756 (de Rome) : « Je pars pour Livourne, dans la seule intention d’y voir un cabinet de médailles, / et de faire quelqu’acquisition. Non, on ne croira jamais ce qu’il m’en coûte de fatigues pour justifier mon voyage et le rendre plus utile ; n’importe, je remplis mon devoir, et cette idée me tiendra lieu de toutes récompenses » (Sérieys 1802, lettre n° XXX, p. 164).
