-Letter of 6 January 1803 (from Weimar): „[…] hier sind die 1400 Mionnetischen Schwefelpasten antiker Münzen für die Anschauung ein großer Gewinn. Ich habe sie so lange angesehen und von allen Seiten betrachtet, bis ich fremder Hülfe bedurfte, dann nahm ich Eckhels fürtreffliches Werk vor, und freute mich an der breiten Erfahrung, an dem schön geordneten Vortrag, an der großen edlichkeit zum Geschäft und der daraus herfließenden durchgängigen Treue.
