Grand documentOriginal passage from the "Grand document".

lettre du 15 décembre 1735 (de Pa ris) : Inscriptions and coins also are focuses of academic discussion. I myself am busy investigating libraries and learned discussions about polishing up the discourses for the appendix to Muratori’s Thesaurus of inscriptions, the argument of all five of which he sets out: thereafter I shall resume my dissertation on the Roman Army and Navy and then a life of Petrarch in French (it calls for a revised edition), and then a purged edition of Dio Cassius if I can obtain a codex of guaranteed quality, along with a translation and notes on some of the important places (textual), I am eagerly expecting your «Sicula» and am very glad that Theocritus is to come into the hands of scholars in a much more accurate shape thanks to your emendations. I am very eager to have a copy of Bouhier’s translation (or version?) of Petronius’«de Bello civili»; and as I have given special attention to the study of chronology I want to get hold of Dodwell’s treatises on his cycles of the Greeks and Romans. (Oxford, Bodleian Library, MS D’Orville 497 f° 252-253).
