Grand documentOriginal passage from the "Grand document".

-Letter of 20 Dec. 1648 (from Leiden to Nijmegen): "Florentini nummi an mei sint futuri; hoc quoque incertum. Aurei optimi sunt, sed magno constant. Utinam ELECTOR BRANDENBURGICUS eo quo alios non tam bonos pretio comparavit, sibi illos vindicet: a tua opera multum hic mihi promitto. Quicquid sit, centum jam scutatos obtuli, supra auri ipsius pretium: si renuit possessor, ut addant aliquid, amicos rogavi. De argenteis jam inter nos convenit." (It is still uncertain if the Florence coins will be mine. The gold are the best, but cost a lot. If only the Elector of Brandenberg would judge them to be for him, as he has bought others which are not so good at a price; with your help I make big promises here. However that may be, I have now offered a hundred scudi above the price of the gold itself; if the owner refuses, I have asked my friends to add something. We have now agreed about the silver coins) (G. C. in de Betouw (ed.), De lucernis veterum reconditis in agro Neomagensium suburbano (Nijmegen, 1783), pp. 34-35 note 1 (only an extract)).
