14 Dec. 1569 (from Brussels): “Reversus ab Atrebatibus ac S[ancto] Amando suavissimas tuas literas hic repperi, humanitatis atque candoris ingenui testes singulares, e quibus valde iucundum fuit intelligere te nunc e gravissimo morbo utcumque convaluisse pristinaeque sanitati indies magis restitui. Gratulor itaque tibi plurimum, nec minus religioni et reip[ublicae] nostrae, et vere (non enim te usura falsi gaudii mei velim frui) gratulor te quidem post damnosam R[everen]di P[atris] N[ostri] confessarii, integerrimi uiri, mortem, nobis adhuc divina bonitate superstitem esse. Etenim ut is, ita nec possunt et eius similes auctoritate et prudentia veroque pietatis studio praestantes viri, malo quodam fato abrepti, ingens boni sui desiderium non relinquere in tanta raritate atque inopia eorum qui sincero affectu Catholicam religionem restauratam et Resp[ublicam] Christ[ianam] salvam cupiunt, simulque in hoc operam sinceram impendunt. De nummulorum munusculo non est quod magnopere gratias agas, sed vehementer gaudeo venisse tam oportune, ut non parum quemadmodum scribis momenti ad confirmandam valetudinem tuam attulerit. Et facile credo: recreant enim plurimum spiritus vitales, modo male affectos, bellae imagines. Itaque nunc vellem aureas misissem, ut eo movissem efficacius. Tu quidem, mi Montane, imposterum quae in potestate mea sunt, ut operam, studium, consilium, rem fidemque meam tibi paratam puta. Vale” (Vocht 1959, no. 179, p. 285).
