'I have rece’d from Mr Alexander Brown, a box that you were pleased to send me, of several curious coins of Queen Mary King James ye sixths mother; (some of them I had never seem before) for which and all yor former favours I return you hearty thanks. If you have any in silver with her effigies in different sizes, as likewise of hers & her husbands together, pray send them with a series of the Kings of Scotland, & I shall give you good rates for them, & pay the money to the gentleman that brings them, or to whom you shall order me: the better they are preserved the more acceptable they will be to me. Mr Brown making so short a stay here, I canot furnish him with any of the medals you desire, having none but what are in my own series.'
