' Our antiquarian society is busy upon putting out an entire metallographia britannica, or an account of the coyns that ever were struck relating to Britain. We divide ourselves into several classes & each takes a share, as Brittish, Roman, Saxon, Danish, Norman, English, &c. The first falls to my share, so if you meet with any in your travels pray send me a sketch of them. Likewise if you send me the legends of any of your Scots coyns I will take care to insert them in the proper series, for they must all pass through my hands. ... I am inclinabl to think that next summer I shall goe to Scotland in company with Monsieur Genevrier, the French king’s physician, who is printing an admirabl book, being the life of Carausius from medals, fasti, history, &c, where he makes him a lawful Emperor & a very great man. This history will be a very great complement to the British nation. ’Tis dedicated to our present Viceroy of Ireland, Ld Carteret.
Dr Mead has lately published an appendix to his oration at our College. ’Tis to show the dignity and honors that have been formerly paid to physicians, especially by the Greeks. There are many medals engraved by your friend Seignior Haym, or Sr Varro as he is to be made next month. This discourse was wrote by Mr Chisul & proves that we ought to be governors of provinces & prime ministers of states, & privy councellors &c , without any qualifications of oaths & sacraments.'
