I said, No, I had not time; he said he observed that I asked Mr. Folkes why he bid when he said he did not want them, and he said the reason was that we bid against him always, and therefore as we raised his prices he was to raise ours; I told him that if I had known that he had a fancy for any lot he might have had it; he said it was Mr. Folkes’s fault, asked me if this was my first time of buying medals? I said, Yes; then he said if he had known he would have favoured a young beginner, and said if I would call any time at York House he would turn over his medals for me; and upon my asking what books there were for a beginner he recommended Pateroll and Vaillant.'
