Grand documentOriginal passage from the "Grand document".

'Worthy Sr
I presume you may by ys time be safe returned from ye search of Teius, Lebedus & Colophon, & at leisure to receive the medals you are pleasd to give me Commission for by yr Favour of 7ber the 14th, wch came to hand after the 27th. I am sorry to find my Account of ym was so lame & imperfect. I can only repeat my great Ambition to serve you, but my misfortune in being so Uncapable. I have taken the best measures I could, & always consulted my Ingenious freind Dr Pikerius, who is esteemd no small Proficient in that Study, & a particular Correspondent wth a Dutch Gentleman (Myn heer Cuperus) very Learned & particularly Curious about Medals. I have lower’d the price 25 dollars, so yt yr Debt is only seventy five, wch be pleasd to Order at yr own Convenience. I return you many thanks for yr Care, & beg yr Excuse for the trouble about the Visny & Racki. If you have any Farther Commands believe me to be wth the greatest Sincerity & Respect
Worthy Sr
Yr most Obligd humb’ Servt T Owen.'

RemarksRemarks regarding the annotation. (en)

Given the similarity between the contents of this letter and another preserved in Sherard's papers, Owen must have forgotten that he had already replied, perhaps as the result of too much Visney (cherry brandy) and Racki. Both were sent, since Sherard marks their receipt (on different days), but replied only once, on 12 February. (en)
