Lettre du 12 octobre 1566 (de Rome): "Quando io ricevei l’ultima lettera di V. S. R., ero in Caprarola, et non son poi tornato a Roma, se non quattro giorni fà, per esser stato in molti luoghi in servitio de’ patroni, et hora essendo quà, à niuna cosa hò pensato prima che à servire V. S. R. sicome è debito mio. Et quanto al Pescennio, io credo sia piutosto smarrito che perso, non mi parendo altramente verisimile, havendomi mostro il Canonico Manlo le medaglie che recuperò da quel servitore di mio Martino, esser furto di huomo che cercava l’argento, et non la rarità de le cose che non intendeva" ; "II Servius Rufus stà così, tanto nell’aureo, quanto nell’argenteo nummo. Appresso Tacito nel 13 si fà mentione d’un Sentio Rufo, ò vero, Senio, secondo i libri scritti. V. S. R. consideri si quid ad rem. Il Cardinale Granvela si raccorda assai assai à V. S. R. E' tutto ne le medaglie, et se non fosse tanto impedito da le facende, sarrebbe una dolce pratica. lo penso d’haver condutto à buon termine la pratica del studio di Pirrho per il Cardinale Farnese, se l’uno ò l’altro non mi manca, che in vero, se perdemo Pirro da Roma, poco più vi resta, che mio Benedetto ha perso la memoria afatto, il Padre Ottavio non può durare troppo fatica et il Frate Onofrio è un piantatore di carote, secondo dice il vulgo, sì che V. S. R. vede l’antichità come sono ridotte. (...)
