Lettre du 9 juin 1742 (d’Arnhem): Concerning furthering his aim of compiling an omnibus corpus of inscriptions. He pleads for O’s. expert help as indispensable and for him to take up the researches Maffeius is said to have relinquished: also he asks (supposing that he knows him) to urge Maffeius to put on paper corrections of the faults in the inscriptions he has issued. He had looked to Burmann’s assistance, but his colleague Tomsius has died who worked in harness with him. He had once seen Tomsius who struck him as an expert on coins, «gemmae» and all antiquities and showed him some very rare coins and urgently requested me to procure for him golden medallions found 20 years ago in the neighbourhood; but I do not think I can get their possessors to let them go.
