Lettre du 21 août 1740 () : à propos de l’acquisition de pierres gravées « Il est vrai que ce sont des curiosités très convenables au magnifique recueil de celles qui sont déjà dans le Cabinet du roi, mais il s’en faut de beaucoup à mon gré qu’elles soient comparables au mérite des médailles et des livres pour l’utilité et l’ornement d’une grande bibliothèque » (Paris, BnF, AR 43, I, p. 45-46 ; Sarmant 2003, p. 320, note 102).
