Lettre du 15 sept. 1739 (de Dijon) : Abstract : He is greatly disturbed by fear that the parcel he dispatched containing his verse translation of bk. 4 of the Aeneid has miscarried: and he reminds O. that your previous letter accompanying the last volume of the Misc. Obsn. had not reached him. France is producing no literature apart from histories of which he instances two first volumes of a great collection of French historians and a forthcoming collection of curious pieces concerning the history of Charles IX: a book on the science of medals by the Jesuit Joubert with remarks by Mons. de la Bastie of the academy of inscriptions; and several other works, e.g., on antiquities. He would like to know whether Changuyon will undertake to reprint my other translations which he has already printed, with the addition of those of the Pervigilium Veneris. There are several further literary items. (Oxford, Bodleian Library, MS D’Orville 492 f° 115).
