-Lettre du 23 août 1728 (de Messine): Abstract: He reports dispatch of the consignment of 47 bronze and 11 silver medals for O. and he hopes he will find some rare ones among them. His friends in Sicily have promised several others which he will send in a later consignment. He asks O. to hold the payments at my disposition. The new viceroy had come expressly to erect an «echelle franche» for the much needed assistance to the island’s commerce. Lord Lovelace and the other chevaliers are detained at Rome in quarantine which the Papal States impose on all passengers. He hopes O. will recommend other friends of his to come to his (C’s.) house at Messina. He would consider it the greatest good fortune by this means to be able to show the respect which he owes O. There are varying accounts of the success of the congress. (Oxford, Bodleian Library, MS D’Orville 487 f° 98-99).
