-Lettre du 19 janvier 1796 (de Venise): “Il Patino nella sua Introduzione alla scienza delle medaglie è debitore a Savot Francese. Salmasio rubbò le pagine intiere dal gesuita Bisciola, ed egli disse di non averlo mai letto. Scioppio ha copiato la Minerva di Sanctius. Milton prese la idea del suo poema dalla Sarcotea del gesuita Masenius. Ma questi plagiari hanno infine ragione, esclamando con Montagna: malheur aux anciens qui m'ont volè mes pensées, e il Bibiena nella sua Calandra, rubbata presso che intiera da Plauto, asserì nel prologo, staria bene a Plauto l'errer rubbato per tenere le cose sue senza chiave . . . si cerchi in Plauto, e troverasri che niente gli manca. Ciò posto, vedete il destino della letteratura. Leggete il Menkenio de Charlataneria eruditorum, e vi maraviglierete assai meno. Sappiate esser plagiario, e desterete più invidia che compassione.
