-Lettre du 4 nov. 1651 : sur l’abondance dans les Flandres et en Allemagne de monnaies qu’on ne voit pour ainsi dire jamais à Rome et que pour cette raison il croit suspectes : « il che tanto più mi sa facile a credre quanto che un Religioso che ando Provinciale in Fiandra (nb : Otto van Zijl ?) e Germania bassa a comprarmi tutte quelle medaglie che poteva da quelli paesi me ne mando una quantità la più parte contraffiate e falisficate, fra le quali anco una di quelle che ho notato nella lista che ho fatto di tali medaglie a me sospette, che mando inclusa. Anzi che nel’istesso Tesoro ho notato una quantità di colonie e molte di esse con gran quantità di lettere di Nerone, Galba, Vitellio, Vespasiano, Tito, Nerva, quali sia detto con pace di un tanto autore [Goltzius], io non credo antiche. Sono 34 anni ch’io ho manegiatto e veduot quanto e capitato in Roma, ho veduto cio che 50 anni prima che io commenciassi havvano adunato il C. Farnese, Giacomo Buoncompagni, Fulvio Orsino, il Pasqualino [Lelio], Achille Maffei, il Manilio [Pier Luigi], il Principe di Conca et altri antiquarii, et non vi ho trovato medaglia di simil sorte, se costi anco non si trovassero, come vo suspettando, come sarà credibile de tali sorte di medaglie non siano capitate in mano ad alcuno de’nominati antiquarii, anzi ne meno del Grand Duca Francesco e tutte poi si ritrovino in Fiandra e Germania.
