-Lettre du 7 octobre 1586 (de Rome) : « Sono quattro giorni che e capiiato in Roma un mercante di gioje fiammingho, il quale ha un carneo col ritratto di Alessandro et Olympiade, antico indubitatamente et non ritocco. lit essendomi parso cosa dignissima che V. S. Ill.ma lo veda, 1’ ho inviato a Caprarola, non perche gli lo proponga per comprarlo vedendo che la stima fattane qui da persone perite e molto lontana da quello che il padrone lo stima, ma solamente perche V. S. Ill.ma lo veda, stimando io che doppo la tazza che havea Madama di fe : me : , che dicono fosse di Alessandro Magno, non si possa vedere cosa migliore di questa, essendo di maestro eccellentissimo et la pietra bellissima. E ben vero che dietro la testa, dove e quel ritratto di Giove Ammone del quale si faceva figliolo Alessandro, e un poco di rottura accomodata col smalto che si conosce benissimo; ma poco importa. Il prezzo che e stimato qui il carneo sono 500 scuti d’ oro; il che ho voluto soggiungere, caso che a V. S. 111."“ paresse parlare di compra in qualche modo.
