Grand documentOriginal passage from the "Grand document".

-Lettre du 1 mars 1690 (den Haag): The coins of Constantinople from Frankfort are delayed, and among the set the bronze orb marked with various devices which was once in the emperor’s Turkish palace: either a coin of one of the last Greek emperors or the sort of amulet the arabs called a talisman. The legate of Federated Belgium says he has obtained for me a Greek MS. from Troy. He comments on coins he had had from Africa. He discusses at some length the interpretations of some striking words he has come across in Ignatius’ letter to the Romans which he translates from Greek «ignis ille qui in me est non amat aquam, non amat refrigerium». (Oxford, Bodleian Library, MS D’Orville 478, f° 37-38).
