-Lettre du 9 août 1685 (de ?): HARDOUIN’s Pliny in 6 volumes is out. He discusses an obscure passage. M. le GRAND is working at his history of the Reformation of the English Church, on which he has conferred at Paris with Dr. Burnet. There have been thirty edicts against the Protestants, who are in extremities. He reports a powerful burning glass, but the smaller one of the Academy is equally strong. He has seen a treasury of Cardinal CARPIGNA’s medals. The King is to buy some of the best MSS of Chancellor SEGUIER’s collection. (Oxford, Bodleian Library, MS Smith 46, f° 403-404).
