Lettre du 11 septembre 1757 (de Paris) : « Outre les arrangements que j’avais à faire au Cabinet, soit pour les médailles acquises en Italie, soit pour une collection que j’avais achetée à Marseille, il m’a fallu faire un mémoire pour l’Académie. Ce n’était pas mon dessein ; on m’y a forcé, et je me suis trouvé embarrassé » ; « Sans plaisanterie, si j’étais libre et riche, je finirais mes jours en Italie. Rien n’est comparable à un beau soleil ; je ne sais plus de quelle couleur il est » (Nisard 1877, lettre n° III, p. 202).
