-Lettre du 25 décembre 1715 (d’Amsterdam) : «Un gentilhomme italien, de ma connaissance, ayant ouï parler des médailles d’Honorius et de Placidie, qu’on a trouvées près de Deventer, m’a prié de vous écrire pour m’informer de vous si ceux à qui elles appartiennent, voudraient s’en défaire, et m’a chargé d’en offrir le double du poids en or, selon le prix ordinaire des médailles d’or en Italie. Si l’on voulait s’en défaire à ce prix, il n’y aurait qu’à les envoyer ici, où on les payerait sur le champ. En cas même qu’on en voulût avoir davantage, je vous prie de me marquer ce qu’on en demanderait. Mais si on les voulait pas vendre, je vous prie, Monsieur, de me le faire aussi savoir, afin que mon ami n’y pense plus.
