Lettre du 8 avr. 1717 (de Montluçon) : « Et par les médailles romaines qu’on y (nb : à Néris, à une lieu de Montluçon dans le Bourbonnais) découvre tous les jours, dont on en trouve depuis les premiers Césars jusqu’aux temps de Valentinien, ce qui peut faire croire que cette ville a été ruinée du temps de cet empereur par l’irruption que les Goths, les Huns et autres barbares firent dans les Gaules sous son empire « (Paris, BnF, Fonds français 17704, f° 139r et v).
