20 July 1623 (from Paris): “Ho visto von gran gusto le primitie de’ tagli di suoi camei, le quali non mi usciranno di mano sicuramente. Ho detto al Sr Tristano che V. S. haveva qualche pensiero di aggiongere il dissegno della sua medaglia di Messalina a quelli di V. S. di che egli si mostra molto fiero et forzi con questa sicurta ne vedremo un impronto. Io per ventura ho comprato hoggi certi dissegni vecchi raccolti in Roma da Stephano du Perac, authore della Roma antiqua, tra i quali ho trovato un dissegno d’una medaglia pur di Messalina, con la conciatura simile a quella del Sr Tristano, ma di piu con un gruppo di capellatura dietro il collo et con il naso un poco basso aguisa di Caligula et il mentone assai innanzi; ne mandaro la copia a V. S. con l’ordinario prossimo. Nello Strada in fol° delle medaglie imperiali c’e una Messalina giusta come quella del Sr Tristano, ma la testa di Claudio nel rovescio e un poco diversa quella dello Strada sendo all’ ordinario et quella del Sr Tristano sendo più macilenta invecchiata et col mento tirato in fuori”; all the Parisian antiquarians have gone because the plague; no deal could be concluded; “Restami a rispondere alla proposta della vendita delle medaglie di bronzo et agento imperiali delle quali non si parlava se non sotto quella conditione che sortisse il suo effetto il trattato di Sre de Lausone, ma la contagione ha guasto tutto il negotio; sendo tutti questi Ssrri andati fuora. Il Sr Tristano torno solamente hieri, io l’ho visto hoggi scorrendo senza poterne raggionare seco, et il Sr Cointo del quale io faceva maggior capitale s’ammado et poi se n’e ito fuori anch’egli, senza speranza di poterci abbocare insieme?
