17 Sept. 1623 (from Paris): “Et cio che diede occasione alla congiettura furono duoi frammenti d’inscrittione l’uno al honore di Claudio Imp. Cos. II (che è il tempo della Messalina) et l’altro al honore di Druso, che giudicarono essere padre di detto Claudio con che dicono che si trovarono medaglie di Claudio et di detta Messalina, le quali passarono in mano del maiore et giurati o sindici di questa citta (nb: Bordeaux) ch’ebbero la curiosita di far collocare dette statue nel palazzo publico dove si veggono ancora con detti fragmenti, ma la pioggia gli ha guasti et quasi scancellati del tutto” (Carpentras, Bibliothèque et Musée Inguimbert, Minutes et copies des lettres de Peiresc, V, f° 714; Rooses et Ruelens III 1900, no. 348, p. 242-243).
