Grand documentOriginal passage from the "Grand document".

'The medal of Xst I mentiond is as yett a stranger to all the Collections in these parts. I have seen several of other Sorts & some of them you describe & this draws in a piece that is praeserved in the Coelestinus Cloyster a quarter of an hour out of Louvain which they say was one of those Judas receivd for betraying our Saviour, but upon examination I found it a Grecian coyn, with ΡΟΔΙΟΝ, an Apollo head on one side & a rose on the other, you have one if I remember well, & I have saw another among the admirable medalles of Dr Sarbus (?) but you know so many pieces of sylver signified so many Shekels, which are quite different matters; howsoever pie creditur, as the prior answered me, & all is well.' (BL, Add MS 22910, f.492v; Burnett 2020b, pp. 587-8 n. 156)

RemarksRemarks regarding the annotation. (fr)

Among the notes Covel had made at the bottom of the letter was ‘numismata rodia: selden say Xt [Christ] was sold for’. (fr)
