Per altro può ella restar persuasa, che, se Smirna fosse stata & avanti così scarza d’Antichità, come al giorno d’hoggi & mancanza de’ Lavoratori di terra, La S.M. (?) del Sigre Laxton non haurebbe Lasciata quella raccolta pretiosa, che si trova presso gli Eredi. Di quì è, che resta per anche quivi affatto digiuno il mio appetito; e se hò vedute poche bagatelle, non m’è Lecito di goderle, stante l’esorbitanza del prezzo, che à tali cose hoggi dà non meno L’ignoranza ammalitiata di chi Le possede, che L’intelligenza generosa di chi già Le ricercava (?). ??? io spero, che prima d’haver L’honore di qualche suo comando, (come instantamente ne La supplico) per l’Italia, dove all’entrar del mese venturo intendo di riportarmi, haverò La fortuna d’imbatterm’ in cosa di sua satisfattione, alla quale come dedicato mi confermo con baciarle reverenteme Le mani.

['The exceptional kindness, with which Your Excellency is pleased to receive my dutiful respects, requires that I return to trouble you with the expression of my great esteem, particularly to assure you, that I will not fail wherever an opportuity arises to seek the reward of serving your every inclination. Truly I do not have a good memory indeed, of those of your medals which you have passed under my eye; nevertheless, when I encounter some rarity worthy of your taste, I will ensure, that it will be delivered as you command. Moreover you can remain assured that, if Smyrna had been previously so short of antiquities, as it is today, and so lacking in people working the land, the S.M. of Mr. Laxton would not have left that valuable collection, which is with his heirs. As a consequence, it is the case that my appetite also remains completely unsatisfied; and indeed, when I saw a few trifles, I was not able to enjoy them because of the exorbitance of the price, which in such matters today makes the base ignorance of the persons who own them no less than the generous understanding of the persons who have looked into them. ????
