-Lettre du 2 sept. 1702 : “Mi diedi l’onore di riverirla con l’ultima in Venezia, quale spero le sia già pervenuta. In questa hò pensato si rinovarle la mia divota servitù, lusingandormi con ciò, che mi continuara il di lei patrocinio. II denaro, che avanzavo dall Abbate Severoli, dove condutti VS Illma a veder li Quadri, m’è convenuto prender delle pitture, stante la scarsezza che il med.° teneva, e trà queste ho pigliato con conseglio d’Amici Quel Quadro del Vandick che mostra lo spaccato di S. Pietro, con molte figure de Peregrini, che baciano la di lui statua, e perche mi sovviene, che ella disse, che le l’avesse potuto avere, avrebbe dato trenta doppie, ho stimato bene di farlelo sapere. che benché n’é chi lo vuole, lo ritengo fino alla di lei risposta. Lo supplico de miei rispetti partecipare al mio stimatis.mo Sig.re Mylord;36 e Mr Rapin,37 di cui ritenò sempre mem.a; così [?] ancora la prego di riverirmi il Sig.r Principe di Lignio gran [?] tante di q.o med.o secolo; e se le capitare il cogna la medaglia di Bruto in argento, ò l’altra di Lepido col nome di Sublici, mi farà gran favore di mandarmela; ed attendendo con gran desiderio delle sue nuove resto al mio solito.” (Londres, British Library, Add. Translation: [You give me the honour of sending my respects to you while in Venice with my last letter, which I hope has already reached you. In that letter I hoped to renew my devoted service to you, flattering myself with the thought that you would continue your patronage. I advanced the money to Abbe Severoli, to whom Your Excellency sent me to look at the paintings, but I thought it advisable to take the pictures, since he had a shortage of funds. Among these, following some friends’ advice, I took that picture by Van Dyck that shows the martyrdom of Saint Peter, with many figures of pilgrims who are kissing the statue of him, and since I remembered that you said that you could have it for 30 doppie, I thought it would be good to let you know about it. Although there is someone here who wants it, I will keep it until I receive a response from you.
