'Je renvoye a Vostre Excellence les medailles que j’ay prises sur May, il y a deux jours; et je n’aurois pas manqué de les rapporter moyméme si je n’avois pas esté empeché. Dans celle de Iulia Augusta, ou ΙΟΥΛΙΑ ΣΕΒΑΣΤΗ, il ne se lit pas ΡЄΚΤΟΝΩΝ comme Mr. Bon a conjecturé; mais ΓΕΡΜΗΝΩΝ et ЄΠΙ ΚΑΠΙΤΩΝΟC: c’est le nom du magistrat, et ce medaille n’est pas encore publiée, au moins je ne la trouve point dans les livres que j’ay feuillettes.
Vostre Exc-^ne ne trouvera pas mauvais, que je l’incommode un peu avec mes observations, qui concernent le nom de cette ville; et j’espere qu’Elle y vudra employer un quart d’heure, pur voir si je m’y suis bien pris.

La medaille de V. Exc. appartient a la ville Germe, que a esté dans l’Hellespont [Discusses Germe and ‘Germia’ in Galatia, citing Tristan.] L’autre medaille et fort gatée; il semble que le visage ressemble a Marc Aurele jeune; ou le fils d’Antoninus pius, qui se voit dans une Médaille de Faustine, chez Patin, p. 233; ou L. Veru, le Collegue de Marc Aurele dans l’Empire. C’est tout ce, que j’en puis dire, et je demeure avec toutes sortes de passion, et en priant Vost.
