Diary of Simonds D'Ewes, 21 May 1646: 'Pleniter transegi pomeridiano pro rarissimis Numismatis, quae Dei bonitate ad me vespera tuto adducta sunt &. Rarissima aurea et insignes incisos lapides vidi & hac nocte.'

[I was fully occupied in the afternoon with the very rare coins which through the goodness of God have been safely brought to me in the evening. I saw very rare gold coins and notable incised stones; also during this night.]
