Grand documentOriginal passage from the "Grand document".

'a very fair Gordianus Pius though one of ye commonest of the imperial medals & frequently in brass converted into an Africanus Junr by changing Pius into Afr. The Gordian Africanus in silver if true are generaly sold for 3 or 4ll a peece, and so artificially counterfeited that one must have a very discerning and accustomed eye to medals not to be imposed on. [talks of difficulty of procuring rare families in Patin…]. As to the numbers yor Lordshp takes notice of on the denarius of the family Calpurnia XXXXIII (the like of which are observable on some of the denarij of the family’s of Marcia, Maria, & Norbana) it is not certain what they signifie, but some coniecture the figures denote the number of years since the establishing of some colony’s by those family’s. … The Brutus R. Eid Mart with ye Pileum and the Pugiones if it was mine is a false one and as such I parted with it to yor Lordshp for a true one is valued at least 4ll and that was rated at 2s: 6d. I have several modern medals with their frames that I design to dispose of shortly if yor Lordshp would have of them [and if you would be?] pleased to let me know it for till I have yor Lordshps resolutions about them they shall not be parted with, being very ambitious of lodging any part of my collection with a person for whom I have so great and due esteem.'
