| |Grand document=Letter from William Courten to Henry Hare, 2nd Baron Coleraine, 4 April 1694: 'I have according to yor Lordshps order procured 84 silver Consular and Imperial Medals which come to eight pounds, one with another all true and with different reverses from from those yor Lordshp has had of me already, amongst which there are 14 or 15 Emperors or Empresses of which you have none of me before for I have the Catalogues by me. Amongst the Consular medals which yor Lordshp had of me formerly there were 2 of M. Antony, his Legions viz. Leg IIII & leg. ye 12th all of which you will find in monsr Patins familia Antonia. There is in this parcel the chortium Praetorianum a scarse medl (esteemed 10s) the 2d Legion 3d leg. VI leg.VII leg. XIII leg. XX & Leg. XXII and if I meet at any time with the rest I shall keep them for yor Lordshp. There are likewise 2 medals of the familia Procilia which are not common. Amongst the Imperial is a Claudius R. Constantiae Aug Galba R. Victoria P R Hadrian R. Italia Hadrian R. Restitutori Galliae, Hadrian R. Asia Faustina Senr R. Concordia Commodus R. Providentiae Aug Julia Severi R. mater Deum. Medals with these reverses are esteemed as rare by Mr Vaillant as yor Lordshp may see in his book. Of the 17 medals yor Lordshp had of Mr Fowler which I had a sight of there were none fit to be in yor Collection but ten, viz. 1 Otho 2 Vespasianus Pater 3 Domitian 4 Nerva 5 Traian 6 Faustina Senr 7 M. Aurelius 8 Faustina Junr 9 L Verus 10 Septimius Severus the other 7 were either false or defaced. It would be a favor if I might know from yor Lordshp what the reverses of the ten are that I may not buy them again. If yor Lordshp aproves of it I shall put up the medals in papers and write upon each paper of the consular medals the name of the family it belongs to & the reverse, & on the Imperial the Emperors or Empresses name with the reverses and send you ym in a box by the carrier directed to yor Lordshp together with the Oisellius the first opportunity.'
