I have read so very little of Coyns that I am very unfit to commend any Books y^t Treat of them. Spanhemius de Praestantia et usu Numismatum (a 4to) is counted an excellent Treatise for ye Erudition & MezzoBarba’s late Edition of Occo (a large Folio) is y^e fullest Collection y^t is extant. Mr Obadiah Walker late Master of University College has published a pretty Treatise in English about 3^s price very instructive & usefull for beginners. What you mention of VOTIS MVLTIS is always accompanied with numerall Letters as VOTIS V MVLTIS X or VOTIS X MVLTIS XX sometimes VOTIS XXX MVLT XXXX. They doubtless allude to Vota suscepta pro salute Imperatoris which were Quinqennalia, Decennalia, Vicennalia &c. & MVLTIS is put for MVLTIPLICATIS & signifies Votis decennalibus multiplicatis in vicennalia or perhaps is not a contraction but signify y^t some of y^e Vota were decennalia & many [MVLTIS] vicennalia. I have no Books \by me/ to explain it better, nor any Book of my own in y^e Country on this subject. As I remember Mr Camden in his Britan. has a Coyn of this Nature.
