Diary of Simonds D'Ewes, 23 May 1646: "Selegi quaedam rarissima Numismata mane ex aureis ... postea disposui alia Numismata aurea, cum Nathaniele Hallo & et ipsum reliqui cum famulo ut in ordinem redigeret rarissima aenea. ... Ego circa Numismata aurea seligenda cum Nathaniele Hallo & disposuerat etiam ille plurima pretiosa aenea seriatim."

[In the morning I selected some very rare coins from the gold ones. ... Afterwards I set in order the other gold coins [of the Winchilsea collection] with Nathaniel Hall, and I left him with a servant to order the rare bronzes. ... I was selecting gold coins with Nathaniel Hall and he had also arranged many valuable bronze coins in order.]
