- Gale, Roger - Catalogue of the coin collection of Roger Gale + (There is also in the Fitzwilliam a second, … There is also in the Fitzwilliam a second, fair, copy (with the same press mark), of a smaller size and running to 344 pages. The copy is written in the hand of the more general 18th-century catalogue discussed below. The copy is not titled, but the coins are exactly the same, and it has later been annotated ‘Catalogue of Mr Gales Coins’. A slip of paper has also been added, stating ‘A Cabinet of Coins bequeathed to the University by Roger Gale Esq. at Scruton, Yorks, 1743’, and that it was ‘Transferred from the University Library 5 May 1856’. That it is a copy of the other 1737 version (the original) is clear from the way that the later additional entries to the original catalogue, added by Gale either in the second column or in slightly different handwriting, have all been written out in a single sequence. The copy also omits a few of Gale’s comments, as well as the last sections (‘Numismatum ... valores’ and ‘Index Imperatorum’). The imperial coins have also been divided into separate sequences for the silver and the bronze.e sequences for the silver and the bronze.)
